How to moisturize skin to keep it healthy

Getting wrinkles and age spots is inevitable, but why wait for it to happen? There are many things we can do to prevent our skin from showing signs of aging. For years aging has been a taboo subject that people don’t want to talk about or even face.

We live in a world that is focused on ‘aging gracefully’ and yet many people are working to make their lives look better and give them the appearance of youth even though they are getting older. It’s rare that you see an aerobic on the TV talking about fine lines and wrinkles, but you will see plenty of cosmetic ads that feature beautiful women with fine lines around their eyes.

The media plays a big role in how society thinks about aging, because there is such a stigma around having wrinkles that many women work hard at trying to find ways to remove or hide them before they’re even really noticeable.

Skin care is a crucial part of maintaining good health and in today’s world, skin care companies need to reach new and diverse audiences.

The concept of skin type and the ideal skincare routine has been around since ancient times. The idea that some parts of the body have different needs is not a new concept in our culture.

However, never before have we had such detailed information about our skin as well as having access to so many products that can cater to our needs. With this knowledge and access, individuals are able to take control of their own personal health journey by recognizing their unique conditions and needs.

The following are the things that you need to consider while keeping your skin healthy:

  1. Identify your skin type

If your skin is not reading the way you want, be sure to understand your skin type. This will help you select your makeup products and prevent premature aging.

The skin type of a person is just as important as the rest of their body when it comes to health and well-being. Generally, there are four skin types that a person can have depending on the genes they inherit from their parents. These include Oily Skin Type, Dry Skin Type, Normal Skin Type and Combination Skin Type.

  1. For normal skin that doesn’t get too dry or too oily, you should moisturize daily

For normal skin, your skin care routine should start with moisturizing. You can use a lotion to keep your skin from getting too dry and an oil if it isn’t getting enough oil. Sometimes you might feel like your skin’s too oily or it gets too dry. But, if you want to keep your skin healthy, put moisturizer on every day. Not only will your skin stay smooth and soft, but the moisturizer can also help keep blemishes away. Moisturizers are available over-the-counter at your local pharmacy, or they can be prescribed by a doctor if you need stronger products. Most of us neglect our skin and think that applying foundation will hide all the skipped maintenance. The reality is your skin will continue to look unhealthy, unless you start taking care of it correctly and apply the thalgo skincare products.

  1. For oily skin, consider a moisturizer produced specifically for that type of skin

For oily skin, consider a moisturizer produced specifically for that type of skin. These products were made to help fight shine and excess oil. Oily skin is prone to breakouts, but using a moisturizer that’s right for this type of skin can help keep acne at bay.

The best moisturizers for oily skin are the ones that are produced specifically for the issue of oily skin. This means that they will be non-comedogenic, meaning that they do not contain any ingredients that cause pore blockage, which is a common problem with people with oily skin. Because barriers to your pores can be created by moisturizers that clog your pores, look for oil-free products.

  1. For combination skin, pick an oil-free moisturizer that won’t clog pores on your face

Your face is a canvas. And if you’ve been painting it with the wrong color of make-up, your skin might be looking more like an artist’s disaster than a masterpiece. While the best foundation for acne prone skin is one that offers full coverage (to hide blemishes and dark spots), many of these formulas contain oil-based ingredients that can worsen your breakouts and trigger additional blemishes. If you have combination skin, pick an oil-free moisturizer that won’t clog pores on your face.

For combination skin, choose a non-greasy moisturizer that’s non-comedogenic. Cleansing and exfoliating reduces the appearance of acne and other blemishes, but some treatment products can make your skin worse if it’s sensitive or already irritated. Non-comedogenic lotions won’t clog pores and are less likely to cause breakouts.

  1. If you have dry skin, you should look for moisturizers with hydrating ingredients

If your skin is dry, you’ve probably tried a lot of products in hopes of finding one that prevents wrinkles, improves texture, and moisturizes. Moisturizers help restore water balance to the surface of your skin, locking in moisture that would otherwise be lost. Moisturizers supply important ingredients such as occlusives (to help keep moisture in), humectants (to attract moisture from the air), antioxidants, and emollients to repair damage.

The skin on our body can often feel dry, but there are a variety of different causes. When the skin is dry, the color may appear paler than it normally does and it may also seem rough to the touch. The dryness can often be remedied by using a moisturizer for your skin type.

  1. Apply facial moisturizer in an upward motion

Moisturizing your face will help to reduce those fine lines and wrinkles that make you look older than you really are. When applying moisturizer, make sure you rub it in with an upward motion. Moisturizer works best when it is gently stimulated by the capillary action of your skin.

Facial lines are caused by a combination of both environmental factors and your genes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t fight them. In fact, with the right moisturizer, you can reduce wrinkles easily all from the comfort of your own home, which is especially convenient if you’re always on the go!

  1. Try to keep your skin protected from the sun

If you don’t protect your skin from the sun, it could lead to premature aging — not to mention other harmful effects to your body and well-being. While a majority of the Western world is well-aware of the dangers of overexposure to sunlight, many people still don’t know how to prevent their skin from being damaged.

Sunlight is made up of a large number of different wavelengths which include ultraviolet rays that can damage our skin.  Some of this damage occurs instantly while some happens gradually. Our skin’s ability to heal itself depends on the wavelength and intensity of the UV light. It damages blood vessels in the dermis and causes premature aging and wrinkles.

The process of aging starts around age twenty but accelerates with increasing exposure to sunlight. Sunburn, Freckling, Telangiectasia and Skin cancer are signs of long term effects of unprotected sun exposure including erythema (redness), hyperpigmentation (brown tan) and hypopigmentation (white spots).

  1. Apply moisturizer when skin is damp

Applying moisturizer when skin is damp can make a big difference in hydration and effectiveness of your moisturizer. This tip may sound counterintuitive, but it can help you get more benefits from your moisturizer and make your skin feel softer and smoother.

Many people apply moisturizer incorrectly and don’t actually realize it. When you apply moisturizer, rub it into your skin thoroughly until the lotion is absorbed by your skin. If your skin is damp, before rubbing in the moisturizer, some of the moisture from your skin will mix with the moisturizer, creating a smoother texture.
